Livestock Development State Minister D. B. Herath emphasised that under the effective leadership of President Ranil Wickremesinghe, the country, which had suffered collapse in every sphere, experienced significant reconstruction.

The State Minister also highlighted the importance of careful consideration by the public. He urged them to evaluate whether the current Government’s concessional programmes, aimed at bolstering the economy, should be jeopardised by entrusting them to an inexperienced party.

These remarks were made by the Livestock Development, State Minister during a Press briefing held at the Presidential Media Centre (PMC) on Wednesday (19) under the theme ‘Collective path to a Stable Country’.

The State Minister also said: “The Ministry acted responsibly to implement vital programmes aimed at revitalising a country that had suffered across all sectors. During a period of food scarcity, our Ministry’s decisive actions successfully mitigated the risks involved. Under the leadership of President Ranil Wickremesinghe, the Government, along with its Cabinet, dedicated itself to rescuing the country from the crisis.

“Substantial efforts were also made to steer the country in the right direction through the enactment of numerous essential laws to reform the legal system. Simultaneously, measures were taken to combat corruption and uphold the rule of law. The successful implementation of these initiatives was made possible by receiving crucial international support in the requisite manner. In achieving this, the guidance of President Ranil Wickremesinghe and fostering international relationships proved invaluable.

“The global economy collapsed in many countries due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Some nations are still struggling to recover. However, within just two years, we successfully emerged from this crisis and set our country on the right course.

“Thanks to the support from our allied nations, including the International Monetary Fund, we overcame fuel and electricity shortages, thereby eliminating long queues. The positive impacts of these actions have been evident to the people thus far.

Nevertheless, ahead of the Presidential Election, certain Opposition figures are making diverse statements aimed at disturbing the country’s development process. Hence, it is crucial for the public to carefully evaluate whether assigning the responsibility of economic recovery to inexperienced parties could lead to setbacks in the country’s progress”.
