Japanese Ship arrives at Colombo Port

SAMIDARE (DD – 106) of the Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force (JMSDF) arrived at the Colombo Port on a formal visit yesterday (20) morning. The visiting ship was welcomed by the Sri Lanka Navy in compliance with Naval traditions.

The 150.5m-long ship serves in JMSDF and she is manned by a crew of 202 crew. She is commanded by Commander Naoki Koga.

Captain Koga called on Commander Western Naval Area, Rear Admiral Saman Perera at the Western Naval Headquarters yesterday. During the ship’s stay in Colombo, the crew are expected to visit some of the tourist attractions in the country.

Concluding her official visit, SAMIDARE (DD – 106) will depart on June 22. Upon her departure, the ship will engage in a Passage Exercise (PASSEX) with a Sri Lanka Navy ship in Colombo seas.
