Major General S.R.B Aluvihare has been appointed as the new Chief of Staff of the Army.
He received his letter of appointment as the 64th Chief of Staff of the Army from Army Commander Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage at the Commander’s office, yesterday.
Major General Aluvihare RWP served as the Commander, Security Forces – Central prior to this appointment and is also the Colonel of the Regiment of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment.
He is an old boy of Maliyadewa College, Kurunegala. He joined the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army as an Officer Cadet on July 26, 1988, to the Intake 31 of the Sri Lanka Military Academy, Diyatalawa. Subsequently, he completed basic military training at the Indian Military Academy.
Then, the Senior Officer was commissioned in the Rank of Second Lieutenant on October 5, 1990 and was posted to the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment. Throughout his career spanning over 35 years, he has gained a wealth of experience and competencies from the many command, staff and instructional appointments he held.
