Kingswood play host to defending champions Peterites tomorrow

Kandy schools interesting games on the cards in the 2024 inter school rugby season gets into top gear in the second week with several interesting fixtures on the cards. On June 22 (tomorrow). Kingwood College will play host to defending champions St. Peters College at Nittawela grounds, Dharmaraja College will play Sri Sumangala College at Bogambara Stadium, Trinity College will be at Havelock Park to play D.S.  Senanayake College, St.Anthony’s College at Mt. Lavinia to play S. Thomas’ College.

Kingswood VS St.Peter’s    at Nittawela 

Kingswood College who went down to Royal College by 05 points to 60, will host St. Peter’s College at Nittawela grounds on Saturday. Kingswood College will have to pull themselves up if they are to survive in this game, St. Peters College who are in top form are sure to give a good display of rugby in the first game they demolished the opponents with a try feast in a spectacular season opener, they scored 112-0at Bambalapitiya. So, in this game they are hoping to continue their good work. Kingswood College though they lost the first game away, will be all out to give a good display of rugby. This game will be refereed by Jeewaka Fonseka.

Dharmaraja – Sri Sumangala at Bogambara 

A keen tussle for supremacy can be expected when these two schools scrum down. Dharmaraja XV is capable of upsetting the Sri Sumangala College side. The Rajans forwards spearheaded by some good talent should give a fine display. Their forwards were shade faster in the first game they played, but are still to play as a team if they can do this, they can hold any side. Sri Sumangala who are led by a talented player, are fielding a fresher laden side, will depend much on players from the pack. The three-quarter should do well and help the side. Trinity –  D.S. Senanayake at Havelock Park  

Trinity College who beat S.Thomas’ College in their opening game over here in Kandy will be at Havelock Park to repeat the same form in their second outing against D.S. Senanayake College. Trinity College’s forwards and backs are in good form, where much will depend on the forwards in his game and the three-quarter are sure to deliver the goods. D.S. Senanayke College is gifted with a good side and is sure to give a good display of rugby.

St. Anthony’s –  S. Thomas at Mount Lavinia

St.Anthony’s College who are undoubtedly smarting after their defeat in the first game at Nittawela grounds against Science  last week should thrill their fans with their superlative rugby. For today’s game St.Anthony’s College after their first games defeat will be all-out to give a good display. St. Thomas College who went down to Trinity College over here in Kandy is sure to give a good display and pocket the game in their favour.

Kandy Zone beat  Kegalle  on Parabola method 

Kandy Zone III were able to beat Kegalle on Prabola method due to wet weather in the under 19 Provincial Youth League Cricket match played at Prisons grounds Pallekelle, Kegalle XI batting first scored 193 for 9 in 45.2 over’s with Maleesha Akash 63, Isiuru Lakshan 54 and three wickets each by Malith Rathnayake and Thisal Yapa. In reply Kandy Zone III’s target was 163 runs in 33 overs and scored 163 for 3 in 28 over’s Puleesha Thilakarthne scored 49 and helped the side to win on Parabola method.

Kegalle XI 193 for 9 in 45.2 over’s – Isuru Lakshan 54, Malith Rathnayake 3 for 18, Thisal Yapa 3 for 39.

Kandy Zone III 163 for 3 in 28 over’s – Puleesha Thialakarthne 49, Dimantha Mahavithana 32, Udith Indunil 31 not out, Smaitha Sandaruwan 2 for 31,

Kandy Zone III triumph

Kandy Zone III beat Kandy Zone I in U 19 cricket  good game of cricket in the under 19 provincial youth league match played at Prisons grounds Pallekelle, between Kandy Zone III and Kandy Zone ( 1). The Zone (III) side were the winners by 28 runs, both home and home teams presented a good game of cricket, where bowling, batting and fielding was good. Kandy Zone III side batting first went on to score 166 runs losing all the wickets in 44.2overs Adham Hilmy batted well to score 48 and Lakvin Abeyasinghe bowled well to pocket 5 for 23. In reply the Zone I team was bowled out for 138 in 21.3 over’s, Kavija Gamage took 5 for 10, and two wickets each by Malith Ratnayake and Thisal Yapa.

Kandy Zone III 166 all-out in 44.2 over’s – Adham Hilmy 48, Wathila Udara 29, Lakvin Abeyasinghe 5 for 23,

Kandy Zone I 138 all out in 21.3 over’s – Lakvin Abeyasinghe 09, Kavija Gamage 5 for 10, Malith Rathnayake 2 for 12, Thisal Yapa 2 for 10.
