A teacher in charge of discipline in a school in the Hanguranketha education zone who punished a student for neglecting his academic work, was assaulted and injured by three persons includinga brother of the student.
The teacher has been admitted to the Kandy National Hospital for treatment. It has been revealed during police investigations that this assault took place near the teacher’s residence after school hours on Wednesday. A 16-year-old school student has also been admitted to the Hanguranaketha Hospital, claiming that the teacher attacked him.
The student involved had been representing the school’s cadet platoon and as he was neglecting his academic activities, the teacher had warned him to be more attentive to academic activities.
It has been learnt that all three persons who are suspected to have carried out the attack had been taught by the respective teacher during their school days.
The three suspects had been informed to report to the police, in connection with the complaint made by the teacher, but since they had not come until yesterday (21) afternoon, the Hanguranketha police have commenced investigations to arrest them.
