Major General assumes duties as 64th Chief of Staff of Army

Major General Rohitha Aluvihare of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment assumed duties as the 64th Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army at the Army Headquarters on 24 June 2024.

Born on 16 September 1969, Major General Rohitha Aluvihare studied at Maliyadeva Vidyalaya, Kurunegala before joining the Sri Lanka Army on 26 July 1988 to the Intake 31. He was commissioned and posted to the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment on 05 October 1990.

With 35 years of dedicated service, Major General Rohitha Aluvihare has completed numerous courses both locally and internationally. Throughout his distinguished career, he has held various command, staff, and instructional positions, showcasing his extensive experience and skills.

Major General Aluvihare has made significant contributions to operations aimed at liberating the motherland from terrorism. For his valiant efforts, he was awarded the Rana Wickrama Padakkama four times and the Rana Sura Padakkama. He is an alumnus of China’s National Defense University and the Defense Service Command and Staff College, Sapugaskanda. Prior to his new appointment, he served as the Commander of the Security Force – Central.
