Anuradhapura District Secretary and Poson Committee Chairman Janaka Jayasundara stated that more than one million devotees had visited Anuradhapura for the celebration of National Poson Festival and this is the highest number of people who have come during Poson in recent times.
The National Poson Committee states that apart from minor accidents during the poson season, no other accidents were reported. The Poson Festival had been organised encompassing the Anuradhapura sacred area, Mihinthalaya and Tanthirimalaya temples.
The National Poson Committee had taken necessary measures to provide all the necessary facilities for the devotees including safety, transportation, water, health, electricity, emergency rescue services. A free train service was operated from Anuradhapura to Mihinthalaya for the devotees.
