Sri Lanka’s six-member boxing team won six medals during their invitational tour at the Seychelles Constitutional Day Boxing Tournament, which concluded in Victoria, Seychelles on June 22.
Sri Lanka secured two gold medals, two silver medals, and two bronze medals in the five-nation tournament.
PS Fernando from Sri Lanka Army won a gold medal in the 69kg welterweight class, while CD Udayakumara of Sri Lanka Air Force clinched gold in the 71kg light middleweight class.
JMT Deshan of St. Sylvester’s College and GC Pathmasiri both earned silver medals in the 75kg middleweight class.
GP Rathhnasiri of Sri Lanka Police won a bronze medal in the 80kg light heavyweight category, and Malith Bandara of Royal College Colombo took home a bronze in the 75kg middleweight class.
The Sri Lanka team included officials Udayaweera Kumaratunga (Team Manager Senior Team), IR Balasooriya (Head Coach), Abdulla Ibunu (Assistant Coach), CA Thandekkara (Manager School Team), and AN Ambgala (Referee and Judge).
The two-day tournament featured boxers from Sri Lanka, Seychelles, Mauritius, Kenya, and Reunion. The Sri Lankan community in Seychelles provided significant support to the Sri Lanka boxing contingent during their stay for the Constitutional Day Boxing Tournament.
