In the first round Dialog Schools Rugby League 2024 fixture , between Royal College and Vidyartha College , which was played under wet conditions at Nittawela yesterday Royal College led by Thivain Perera scored 25 points off five tries and Vidyartha College led by Gayan Perera scored 10 points off two tries. Both schools failed to kick at goal due to wet ground conditions.
Royal opened scoring in the 15 th minute through a typical rolling maul through hooker Naqueeb Mohamed and a few minutes later no eight Ayyas Shyam scored off another rolling maul with Nabeel Yehiya missing both conversions Royal led 10-0 at half time In the 10 th minute of the second half Yoshitha Jayasekara scored off another rolling maul with Yahiya once again missing the conversion and the sore read 15 -0.
The lads from Reid Avenue scored their fourth try through Ayyas Shyam to make it 20-0. Ten minutes before the final whistle number eight Ayyas Shyam made it a hat-trick of tries by scoring off a rolling mauland Nabeel Yehiya once again missed the conversion and the score read 25-0. In the last five minutes Vidyartha fought back to score two unconverted tries through skipper Gayan Perera to make it 25 -10 at the final whistle.
The winners had the advantage of a talented pack and with all eight players giving their best. The Vidyartha College forwards too played well, but due to superb cover defence from the opponents they failed to match them.
In the first half the Royal College scored two good tries and soon after the break they scored another try to make the score 15-00 and in few minutes another two tries to make the score 25-00, under wet condition the Royal College’s goal kicking was not up to the mark.
