Green Machine grinds out 19-9 win over Science College

Isipathana College showed their strength in a thrilling rugby match against Science College, triumphing 19-9 in the Schools Dialog ‘A’ Division Rugby League Tournament at Air Force grounds in Ratmalana yesterday after leading 14-6 at half time.

The Green Machines from Isipathana College scored two goals and one try, totaling 19 points, while Science College managed three penalties courtesy of their place kicker fullback Dilruwan Perera.

The game started with a bang as Isipathana’s flanker Thenethra Dodangoda scored near the right post just 15 minutes in, after a series of passes from Fullback Shahid Zumri. Zumri made an easy conversion kick, putting Isipathana ahead 7-0.

Science College fought back with two penalty kicks from fullback Dilruwan Perera, narrowing Isipathana’s lead to 7-6 by the 23rd minute. However, Isipathana’s scrumhalf Kalindu Perera scored a try in the 31st minute, which fullback Zumri converted, extending their lead to 14-6.

Just before halftime, fullback Dilruwan Perera kicked another penalty for Science College, making it 14-9 as they headed into the break.

After halftime, Isipathana extended their lead with an unconverted try, making the final score 19-9 in their favour.

This victory keeps Isipathana College undefeated in the season, while Science College faced their first loss.

Raveen Alexander officiated the match, which briefly paused due to a spectator interruption early on.
