Afghanistan fans took to the streets and carried out celebrations after their side secured their historic first-ever qualification to the semi-finals of the ongoing T20 World Cup, on top of their thrilling win over Bangladesh on June 25.

The Rashid Khan-led side defeated Najmul Shanto’s Bangladesh by 8 runs via DLS method, which meant that they knocked out one of the favourites, Australia, from the race for the semi-final. After their emphatic victories against T20I cricket giants like New Zealand and Australia in the same T20 World Cup run, Rashid’s Afghanistan strived through to the final four of the tournament.

Having opted to bat first, the end-to-end thriller saw Afghanistan batters face a risky start after managing to set a target of just 115 runs against a considerably strong Bangladesh bowling attack. However, the likes of skipper Rashid and Naveen ul Haq redeemed themselves with their bowling brilliance in their 4/23 and 4/26 spells respectively. After multiple rain delays, it was Naveen who bagged the final two Bangladesh wickets to secure the side’s crucial win in an emphatic fashion on Tuesday.
