As part of the celebrations to mark the Poson Poya Day, the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Amman hosted an art competition for Sri Lankan children in Jordan on 20.06.2024. The competition was held under the theme “Significance of Poson Poya Day.” Fourteen Sri Lankan children, aged between 7 and 14, participated in the competition.

The objective of this competition was to provide a platform for children to express their creativity while sensitizing them on the historical significance of the arrival of Arahath Mahinda Thero, who brought Lord Buddha’s message to Sri Lanka, which created a religious, cultural, social, and political transformation in Sri Lanka.

Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Jordan J.A.D.S. Priyangika Wijegunasekara appreciated the drawings by the Sri Lankan children and observed that the competitors and their parents are deeply connected to the Sri Lankan culture and Buddhist teachings.
