Finance State Minister Shehan Semasinghe said the World Bank has approved US$ 150 million to improve health facilities in the country.

Semasinghe added that the World Bank has approved a financial facility of US$ 150 million to improve the quality of health services of the country. He commented that this move shows the government’s commitment to strengthen the country’s healthcare infrastructure by ensuring better healthcare for all citizens.

Director for Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka of the World Bank Faris Hadad-Zervos said that Sri Lanka’s health sector has shown remarkable performance and that the necessary strength should be given to overcome the upcoming challenges.

This financing will be utilised to strengthen health systems to meet the growing healthcare needs of the elderly persons in Sri Lanka, a country with an aging population in South Asia, as well as effectively control non-communicable diseases, which account for 80 percent of deaths in Sri Lanka.
