At the panel discussion of the OPEC Fund Development Forum in Vienna, Austria, State Minister of Finance, Shehan Semasinghe highlighted Sri Lanka’s response to ongoing challenges through a comprehensive reform programme.

This programme includes institutional and legal reforms aimed at promoting economic growth and restoring institutional capacity, essential for sustainable development. A significant action in this effort has been the strengthening of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery and Corruption (CIABOC) through the enactment of the Anti-Corruption Act No. 2023.

This legislation aims to eradicate bribery and corruption to ensure the general welfare of a democratic society. The new anti-corruption law provides a more robust legal framework to address corruption vulnerabilities, demonstrating the government’s strong and continuous commitment to necessary reforms following the crisis. The improvements in the fiscal and monetary sectors are clear indicators of progress, achieved through the sacrifices and efforts of every citizen in the country.
