The owner of the multi-day fishing trawler in which the Sri Lanka Navy found over 190 kgs of heroin and ICE was arrested by the Police Narcotics Bureau when he arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) to flee the country.
He had been preparing to go through the last security check, when a group of officers from the Airport Police Narcotics Division arrested him on Tuesday night.
The suspect is a 38-year-old businessman resident in Negombo.
He had arrived at the airport on Tuesday (25) at 08.35 pm to board an Emirates Airlines flight to the Maldives.
The suspect has now been taken to the headquarters of the Police Narcotics Division for interrogation.
The multi-day fishing trawler seized with the stock of narcotics on board was taken to Galle Port yesterday (26) by the Sri Lanka Navy and handed over to the officers of the Police Narcotics Division for further investigation.
