According to Police sources, there are moves to suppress the investigation regarding the alleged sexual assault of an Indian girl by a senior officer of the Navy, at a night club on Duplication Road, Bambalapitiya.
On the dawn of June 20, the Indian girl had complained to the Bambalapitiya Police that while she was drinking and enjoying herself with a Sri Lankan friend at the night club, a senior officer of the Navy came from behind and sexually assaulted her.
The Indian girl had complained that the senior Naval officer who had molested her left the night club with several other people in a car belonging to the Navy. She handed over the vehicle’s registration number to the Police as well.
Accordingly, it is learnt that a Court medical form has been issued to her by the Police. According to the Police, a statement has been obtained from the senior Naval officer and he has stated that he did not commit the molestation.
Police sources further said that the Indian High Commissioner has also paid attention to this incident and informed high-ranking people in the country.
It has been further learnt that no steps have been taken as yet to check the security cameras of the night club in question.
It is known that the Police have also been rendered helpless due to pressure from powerful people to suppress the incident.
