Labour and Foreign Employment Minister Manusha Nanayakkara pointed out that when other countries in the world were in economic decline, all parties and opposition groups came together and worked together to get out of that economic abyss.

He pointed out that when Korea collapsed economically, not only opposition politicians but also the people of the country handed over their private properties to the government to become economically strong. But he said that it is sad that the politicians of our country do not work with such broad understanding.

Speaking at a press conference in Colombo yesterday, Minister Nanayakkara pointed out that when countries like Israel and Russia faced issues at the international level, the entire political mechanism helped them get out of that situation.

However, the aim of the opposition politicians in our country is to aggravate the crisis by deceiving the people, he said.

Speaking at the press conference Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said that since there is a strong need for a stable government to move forward as a country, people should give the power to present President at the upcoming Presidential Election and start the programme to create a strong government.

The Minister emphasized that the Government has no need to postpone the upcoming Presidential Election in any way. He stated that since the Presidential Election should be held first constitutionally, the Presidential Eelection will be held first and then arrangements will be made to hold the Parliamentary Election.

The Minister pointed out that since President Ranil Wickremesinghe took the initiative to recover an economically collapsed country, he has plenty of qualifications to be a candidate for the upcoming Presidential Election.

He also stated that it is regrettable that when the country is economically stable, the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) is creating a wave of strikes to drag the country back into the economic abyss.

Parliamentarian Mahindananda Aluthgamage said that JVP does not want a stable country.

“The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna does not want anything good to happen to the country. Throughout history, the goal of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna has been to create anarchy in the country,” Aluthgamage said.

He said that Ranil Wickremesinghe came forward and accepted the challenging responsibility as no one could take the responsibility of the economically collapsed country and stabilize the country.

Therefore, the responsibility of the country should be handed over to a capable leader like Ranil Wickremesinghe.

“The only aim of the narrow politics of the JVP is to mislead the people, Aluthgamage said.

He also said that the JVP asked Sri Lankan migrant workers not to send money to the country when the country deteriorated economically. That was how they betrayed the country.

Aluthgamage emphasized that this kind of hypocritical politics is a curse for the country.
