Parliament to debate debt restructuring agreements next week

The Committee on Parliamentary Business has decided to debate the Resolution for the Implementation of External Debt Restructuring Agreements on July 2nd and 3rd, Chief of Staff and Deputy Secretary General of Parliament Mr. Chaminda Kularatne said.

This has been decided in the Committee on Parliamentary Business held this morning (28) under the chairmanship of Speaker Hon. Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena and with the participation of Prime Minister Hon. Dinesh Gunawardena.

Accordingly, the Parliament is scheduled to meet on Tuesday the 2nd of July at 9.30 am and it has been decided to hold the debate until 5.00 pm. The Hon. President is also scheduled to make a special statement to Parliament on that day regarding the implementation of external debt restructuring agreements, the Deputy Secretary General added.

 

It has been decided to hold this debate for the second day on Wednesday the 3rd of July from 9.30 am to 5.00 pm. Subsequently at 5.00 pm, the vote on this resolution is scheduled to be held.

 

This resolution is submitted to the Parliament to grant the necessary permission to the Minister of Finance, Economic Stabilization and National Policy to implement the Final Agreement reached between the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and the Official Creditor Committee (OCC) on the Debt Restructuring of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka on 26th June 2024 and the Final Amendment Agreement to Loan Agreements reached between the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and the Export-Import Bank of China (EXIM Bank) on 26th June 2024.
