The Attorney General informed the Court of Appeal yesterday (27) that former Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella had misused Parliamentary privileges by signing the affidavit related to the writ petition filed by him in Parliament.

The Attorney General who informed the Court of Appeal that petitioner Rambukwella had concealed facts from Court in that writ petition and thereby misled the judiciary and he had not only misused Parliamentary privileges but also violated the Prisons Act.

Deputy Solicitor General Nirmalan Wigneswaran who appeared for the Attorney General stated the above when the writ petition filed requesting to invalidate the order given by the Maligakanda Magistrate to remand Rambukwella pending the conclusion of the trial related to the purchase of substandard human immunoglobulin vaccines.

The Deputy Solicitor General raised objections against the petition and stated that the petitioner had submitted a Cabinet paper stating that there was a shortage of medicines and had misled the Cabinet and spent government money to buy these medicines.

The Deputy Solicitor General also pointed out that a fundamental rights petition has been filed before the Supreme Court against his arrest and detention in connection with this drug incident and most of the points mentioned in that petition are included in this writ petition.
