Jayewardenepura Hospital plans to be leading tertiary healthcare provider in SA by 2030

Health Minister Dr. Ramesh Pathirana has invited all staff of Jayewardenepura General Hospital and trade unions to cooperate to make the hospital the leading tertiary healthcare provider in South Asia (SA) by the year 2030.

A special discussion on the future development work of Sri Jayewardenapura General Hospital was held yesterday (27) at the Health Ministry under the patronage of the Minister.

Here, special attention was paid to the needs of all the staff including specialists, doctors and nurses, the treatment services provided by the hospital, the launch of new treatment services, the efficiency of specialist medical services provided, and the transportation needs of patients coming to the hospital.

The Minister advised the officials to take necessary measures to implement the services promptly and efficiently by giving priority to the above needs of the hospital.

Instructions were also given to make correct decisions and take steps to maintain this hospital as a quality and efficient hospital.

It was pointed out to the Health Minister that the hospital staff hope to be able to provide effective health services to the people of this country through the leadership and guidance provided by the current Chairman of the hospital, Dr. Saranga Alahapperuma.

Sri Jayewardenepura Hospital, which opened on September 17, 1984, with a 1,001 bed capacity, is a donation from the Japanese government. Built according to Japanese architecture, this hospital was also known as the largest fully equipped hospital in Asia at that time. At that time, its value was US$ 850 million. At present, the staff strength of the hospital is 1,800.

State Minister of Health Seetha Arambepola, Health Secretary Dr. Palitha Mahipala, Director General of Health Services Dr. Asela Gunawardena, Additional Secretaries Sunil De Alwis and Sunil Galagama, Chairman of Sri Jayewardenepura Hospital Dr. Saranga Alahapperuma, Director Dr. Ratnasiri Hewage and other staff members were present at the meeting.
