Accountant gets six years’RI,fine:
Victim gets Rs.150,000 compensation:

An accountant who attempted to kill the person by causing an accident using his vehicle after having an argument with a person who lived in the neighboring house due to the sound of a pressure cooker, was yesterday sentenced to six years rigorous imprisonment by the Colombo High Court.

In addition to the sentence, the accused was ordered to pay a compensation of Rs.150,000 to the victim and pay a fine of Rs.25,000 by the Colombo High Court.

Delivering the judgement, the Colombo High Court Judge observed that the accused resided in an upstairs neighborhood and was threatening the victim due to the sound of a pressure cooker. After the dispute, the accused attempted to kill the victim by running his vehicle into an accident deliberately.

After considering the circumstantial evidence, the accused was sentenced to six years’ rigorous imprisonment by the Colombo High Court as the act of the accused be concluded that this is a deliberate act. Following a lengthy trial, Colombo High Court Judge Navaratne Marasinghe observed that the prosecution was able to prove the allegations against the accused beyond reasonable doubts.
