West Indies women secured a thrilling last-over victory by 6 wickets against Sri Lanka women in the third and final T20 game, clinching the series 2-1 at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium yesterday.
Led by Hayley Matthews, West Indies chased down a target of 142 with one ball to spare. Matthews (49 off 40 balls) and Stafanie Taylor (33 off 30 balls) set a strong foundation with a 60-run opening partnership.
After Sri Lanka’s bowlers applied pressure following the openers’ dismissals, Shemaine Campbell’s unbeaten 41 off 30 balls guided West Indies to victory.
Earlier, Sri Lanka’s Chamari Athapaththu scored 38 (run-a-ball) with three fours and three sixes, supported by Harshitha Samarawickrama (28 off 26 balls) and Kavisha Dilhari (26 off 22 balls). They posted 141/7, with Aaliya Alleyne and Afy Fletcher taking two wickets each for West Indies.
Hayley Matthews was named Player of the Series, while Shamaine Campbell earned Player of the Match honours.
