Haroon Aslam, representing Victoria Golf Resort, achieved a double victory at the Eagles’ Quadrangle Cup Golf Tournament concluded at Sri Lanka Air Force Eagles’ Golf Links and Courses in China Bay, Trincomalee on Saturday.
Aslam secured both the Best Overall Nett Score with 35 points and the Best Overall Gross Score in the two day competition. The 20-year-old golfer, a former Trinity College standout, has also excelled in recent Sri Lanka Golf Ranking Tournaments.
In a historic win, the Royal Colombo Golf Club (RCGC) emerged victorious in the team championship, scoring 308 points. This marked RCGC’s first-ever triumph in the third edition of the quadrangle golf tournament, which featured teams from Victoria Golf Resort, Nuwara Eliya Golf Club (NEGC), and the host Sri Lanka Air Force Eagles’ Golf Links and Courses. Sri Lanka Air Force secured the runners-up position, with NEGC taking third place.
Despite Aslam’s individual success, his team VGR finished fourth. Sanduni Wanasinghe of RCGC claimed the Nearest to the Pin – Ladies’ Award, while Group Captain Crishantha Fernando from Sri Lanka Air Force Eagles’ Golf Links and Courses took home the Gents’ Award. Wanasinghe not only won the Nearest to the Pin but also clinched the Longest Drive award for women, contributing to RCGC’s victories.
Air Vice Marshal Sampath Wickremaratne of Sri Lanka Air Force won the Longest Drive – Gents category. Under the captaincy of Tharanga Gunasekara, RCGC celebrated their first championship win. The Eagles’ Quadrangle Cup Golf Tournament, organized annually by the Sri Lanka Air Force, is the premier inter-club golf event in Sri Lanka. DIMO sponsored the tournament as its principal sponsor, with Bank of Ceylon serving as the banking partner. Each participating club fielded 15 players in this competition.
