Former Member of Parliament convicted Hirunika Premachandra filed a bail application and an appeal petition before the Colombo High Court yesterday, seeking an order quashing the prison sentence given against her last Friday by the Colombo High Court and to acquit her from the charges.
The bail petition and the appeal petition have been filed through the President’s Counsel Nalinda Indatissa.
In order to forward the appeal petition filed yesterday to the Court of Appeal, the counsels representing Hirunika Premachandra handed over the appeal petition to the High Court Registrar.
She also sought from the Colombo High Court to release her on bail subject to this appeal petition and it is to be taken up before the Court on July 4.
Former MP Hirunika Premachandra was found guilty of 18 charges for alleged involvement in the abduction of a youth using a Defender in 2015 and she was sentenced to three years’ rigorous imprisonment by the Colombo High Court last Friday.
