Popular Sri Lankan model Piumi Hansamali who visited the Illegal Assets Investigation Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) yesterday morning (01) to give a statement said to the media afterwards that her statement was not recorded yesterday and she has been informed that another date will be given.

After coming out of the CID office, Hansamali told the reporters outside that she has a child whom she is responsible for and will not dream of being foolish enough to conduct illegal businesses such as drug trafficking or dealing with black money as alleged by some people.

She had brought all evidence to show the CID of her business transactions from its inception to prove that all her assets and property including the recently acquired Land Rover and the new house in Colombo have been purchased by the money earned from her skincare cosmetics business. She said that she has no intention of conducting illegal businesses, which would end up in her going into prison, to jeopardise the life and future of her child. She further said that all her income has been generated only by her cosmetics business which has around 20 products that are used by women on a large scale.

Hansamali was called to visit the Illegal Assets Investigations Unit of the CID yesterday to record a statement related to the investigation that is being conducted according to a complaint over allegations of having suspiciously acquired property and assets through illegal means worth millions of rupees.

Piumi Hansamali arrived with her husband with several bags full of files and receipts to show the CID as evidence of the money earned through her cosmetics business alone through legitimate means.

Speaking to the reporters outside the Illegal Assets Investigation Unit of the CID before walking in to provide a statement, she revealed that through her own investigations it has been revealed that another individual who is also in the cosmetics business was behind the various allegations leveled against her. Before going into the CID office to provide her statement, maintaining her innocence, Piumi said that the investigations would prove that she has legally earned her assets and property and not through illegal means as claimed and popularised via social media by some people.
