Air Force, Royal claim top honours at President’s Trophy Water Polo

The Victorious Royal College teams

The Sri Lanka Air Force Men’s and Women’s teams and Royal College triumphed in the President’s Trophy Water Polo Championship. The event, hosted by the National Youth Service Council in collaboration with the Royal College Union Aquatic Club and Youth Vision 2048, took place at Sugathadasa Stadium Swimming Pool.

In the Men’s Open category, the Air Force team secured the championship with 10 points. Old Thomians Sports Club (OTSC) finished as runners-up with nine points, followed by D. S. Senanayake College in third place.

The Women’s Open category saw Sri Lanka Air Force dominate, scoring 11 points. OTSC claimed the runner-up position with 8 points in a straight final involving only two teams.

KDA de Silva of Sri Lanka Air Force was named the Most Valuable Player in the Women’s Open category, while Isiwaruna de Silva excelled for the victorious Air Force Men’s team, earning the Most Valuable Player title in the Men’s Open category.

Isiwaruna de Silva, a 21-year-old diver from Sri Lanka Air Force and a former Royal College and National athlete, clinched the Men’s Open Championship.

In the junior categories, Visakha Vidyalaya secured the Girls Under-13 Championship, while Ladies’ College triumphed in the Girls Under-17 and Under-19 Championships.

Among the boys, Royal College claimed victory in the Boys Under-13 and Under-17 categories. In the final and most looked forward to match of the tournament, Royal College emerged victorious in the Boys Under-19 Championship as well to make a clean sweep of the boy’s championship titles.

Royal College’s Dimitri Liyanage was named the Most Valuable Player in the Under-19 Boys category, while Treesha Adams of Ladies’ College, a national player, earned the Under-19 Girls Most Valuable Player award.
