DMC, Health authorities discuss relief steps

The Disaster Management Centre is presently holding discussions with the health authorities on health precautions that should be taken when establishing disaster relief camps during the pandemic situation in the country, DMC Deputy Director Pradeep Kodippili yesterday said.

Kodippili also said that the DMC is presently drawing out plans on facing any possible disaster situation that may be caused by the coming monsoon rains.“We may have to set up relief camps during disaster situations like flood and earthslips. So it is important that we have a plan for the relief camps in a pandemic situation. We need to get ready for all the health precautions that should be taken at these camps to avoid any spread of the Coronavirus. So we have carried out discussions with the Health authorities on how to establish relief camps during a pandemic,” Kodippili also said.

Meanwhile, Kodippili also observed that the Disaster Management Center has responded and coordinated more than 60,000 distress calls received via the hotline 117 during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We are continuing to coordinate various sectors including health and administrative bodies concerning the difficulties faced by people during this COVID-19 pandemic.
