The Colombo Additional Magistrate Priyantha Liyanage today issued summons on the Greek captain of the crude oil tanker ‘MT New Diamond’ vessel to appear before the court on September 28.
The Magistrate made this order pursuant to a request made by Deputy Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris.
Deputy Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris appearing on behalf of the Criminal Investigation Department informed the court that the captain had earlier refused to provide statement to the CID with regard to the incident.
DSG Dileepa Peiris further stated that the captain and crew refused to provide statements to CID since they had obtained legal instructions from a legal association regarding the incident.

The Additional Magistrate observed that the Magistrate court has jurisdiction to issue such orders against the owner and its sub-agents in accordance with Marine Pollution Prevention Act.
