Nineteen suspects including a woman were arrested along with 61.651 grams of heroin during a special operation in the Southern Province last Wednesday, the Senior DIG Office sources said.
A 22-year-old was arrested in Sippikulama, Hambantota along with 4.580 grams of heroin while an ex-army soldier (32) of Pallemalala, Hambantota was arrested along with 5.111 grams of heroin, the sources said.
A resident (37) of Panvila, Rathgama was arrested along with 13 grams of heroin and a woman (33) of Nakulugamuwa was arrested along with 10.210 grams of heroin, the sources further said.
Moreover, a youth (18) of Danketiya, Tangalle was arrested along with 5.850 grams of heroin while another (27) of Wenamulla, Ambalangoda was arrested along with 5.500 grams of heroin, the sources said.
Another suspect (31) of Banwelduwa, Kosgoda was arrested along with 5.300 grams of heroin and a resident of Uragasmanhandiya was arrested along with 5.450 grams of heroin, the sources added.
Another suspect (26) of Kotawila, Kamburugamuwa was arrested along with 6.600 grams of heroin while another was arrested along with 6.600 grams of heroin, the sources said.
The suspects were to be produced in the Hambantota, Tangalle, Matara, Balapitiya and Galle Courts, Police said.
