Trincomalee District Team won the Eastern Province limited overs Cricket championship beating Batticaloa District team in the final at the Palamunai Public Playgrounds in Ampara district recently. Batticaloa district team was the runner - up. The cricket championship was held as a part of Eastern Province Sports Festival-2022.
This cricket tournament organized by the Eastern Province Department of Sports under the guidance and supervision of the Eastern Province Sports Department Director N.M.Nowfees while Ampara, Batticaloa and Trincomalee district teams participated.
Trincomalee District Team batted first and scored 64 runs in the 13.4 overs. In reply Batticaloa district team, scored 46 runs in the 13..5 overs. Trincomalee District team beat Batticaloa District team in the final. The champion players at this Provincial level competition which will have to contest at National level competition will be conducted by the Sports Ministry. Ampara District Secretariat Sports Officer M.I.M.Ameer Ali, Eastern Province Sports Department Officials, Sports Officers and many others were present.
