The Dasa Solutions Team made a stunning debut to their campaign on the opening day of the 50th Mercantile Seven-A-Side Rugby Tournament, which began at the CR and FC Grounds in Longden Place yesterday.
The newcomers to Mercantile rugby made a fine impact in their very first outing of this 2-day tournament as they powered their way to a smashing 43-0 victory over the more fancied NDB side.
In fact, NDB started as one of the top contenders for the title after having reached the Shield Championship semi-finals, when the tournament was last held in 2019.
Meanwhile, favourites Dialog Axiata ‘A’ Team and John Keells ‘A’ Team made a winning start to their campaign while competing in the Cup/Plate segment Tournament. Dialog Axiata edged out their rivals 3DH International 12-5 in an exciting fixture while John Keells had the better of their ‘B’ Team 15-5 more convincingly.
Dialog Axiata scored two tries and converted one of them while 3DH International managed to score only a solitary try. In contrast, John Keells ‘A’ Team had the satisfaction of running down
three tries during a dominant performance while conceding just a solitary try to their opponents.
Dialog Axiata were the Plate Champions while 3DH International were the Shield champions in the 2019 tournament.
