Nalandians ’85 Group completes exemplary deed

Nalanda College, Colombo Principal Tilak Waththuhewa , yesterday said that the implementation of a scholarship scheme for the children by the Old Anandians ’85 group to mark its 50th anniversary should be highly appreciated.

The Nalandians ’85 group consists of students who entered the college in 1973. The Nalandians ’85 group completes 50 years. To mark this occasion, the ’85 group awarded a scholarship of Rs. 5,000 per month for two years to provide economic strength to 50 selected Advanced Level students . The group has spent Rs 6 million for the purpose.

“The ’85 team could have spent this money and celebrated their 50th anniversary by throwing a party at a hotel. But they used the money for the benefit of the children of their alma mater It is a great example,” the Principal said

Principal Wattuhewa said that he was also very happy that the Nalandians ’85 group had used the money for a worthy cause. “We know how hard parents work for the education of these children. Today, the ’85 group members who are giving this scholarship to these children have worked hard to get education and ascended the top rung of society.

Patron of the ’85’ group of the Nalanda College, Colombo Court of Appeal justice Sobitha Rajakaruna and Group’s first president Sisira Dabare also spoke.
