SLPP stronger than ever before - Prof. Bandara

MP Professor Ranjith Bandara said that the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) has become a stronger political movement than ever before. He was speaking at a media conference   held at the SLPP party headquarters yesterday (10).

MP Bandara added that the members who separated from the SLPP were allowed to act freely because they are a political movement that protects and stands for the democratic multi-party system.

“The SLPP prepared the background for many of them, who deserted the party to win at the 2020 General Election. Now those people come out and fly freely like birds and express their opinion. The SLPP has allowed these people to fly freely because we are a political movement that protects the democratic multi-party system and stands for it. That is why we have seen some Cabinet Ministers and State Ministers waking up and talking in the past periods,” he said.

“As a political movement, the SLPP has identified people who can support the common aspirations and common ideologies in their party activities. That is why some people tried to find other ways and become new political movements. Therefore, the SLPP has become a stronger political movement than before. The reason is that only a group of people work with us for these common ideologies and common aspirations,” he said.

“Therefore, only a group of people who stand for the ideology of the SLPP are working with us. Personally, those who say this is my opinion are not in the party. When we face an upcoming election, we see a group of people who only follow the ideology of the SLPP. We are a party that stands for the economic freedom of the people of this country, not only democracy, multi-party system. We do not represent the opinion of any party or group, we represent our own opinion. Our opinion is very clear,” he said.

Unlike the recent people’s movement led by the Janata Vimukthi Peramuna and the Sami Jana Balawega, all those movements in the past were people friendly and country friendly. But, the Janata Vimukthi Peramuna and the Sami Jana Balawega, created an artificial wave calling slogan “Gota Go Home”.

“That artificial wave is not a positive wave unlike the previous waves in the country. This is a wave of hate politics. Each of the earlier movements and rallies had a programme. This newly created wave was called the Aragalaya (Struggle). Through that struggle, the oppression that existed at that time was used. So we can see that the wave is somehow artificial. It started as “Gota Go Home” and went to the point of destabilizing the state. The people who made these waves created this wave by disabling the country’s economy,” he added.

He further noted that foreign employees were requested not to send money because the politicians were stealing. The flow of money sent by expatriate workers, which could have earned the country about Rs.6 billion, was stopped. Just when the country was raising its head, there were riots on streets and the tourism industry was pushed to a standstill again. Factory workers and teachers were brought to the streets. These are the steps taken to destabilize the economy. In the recent period, the population of this country has been pushed into great uncertainty. After that, people’s faith in law and society was completely broken. The entire social life was disrupted.MP Bandara mentioned that there was no method of finding solutions for the issues raised by these waves.

“Therefore, the ripples you made were lost because the background created to make those ripples was artificial. Now once again people believe that these groups of gangs are not capable of making a country. These groups of gangs can only create uncertainty and run their political campaigns on it. We of the SLPP do not create rallies. We are a political party that respects democracy. We can see that today the situation is changing for the better. There are no power cuts and there is a stable gas supply. No worries,” he said.
