College prefect held for assaulting student

Officers of the Kandy Children and Women’s Bureau of Police took into custody yesterday a prefect of a leading school in Kandy for allegedly assaulting and injuring a Grade 6 student at the school premises.

The assault had taken place during the school assembly in the morning. The prefect had scolded the student and slapped him on the ear. The injured student was admitted to Kandy hospital for treatment.

In a similar incident, seven Cadet Corps of the same school were held for assaulting a student inhumanly a few days ago.
