The anticipatory bail application filed by the lawyers of the former principal of St. Anthony’s Girls’ School, Katugastota P.K.R.C.Ranasinghe who is a suspect in the incident where she is alleged to have admitted students to intermediary classes of the school using false documents, was rejected by Kandy Additional Magistrate Mohammed Rafi yesterday (5).
When this case was taken up for hearing on June 28, lawyers representing the former principal submitted a pending bail application and the additional magistrate had informed them that the decision on it will be given yesterday (5).
Accordingly, Additional Magistrate Mohammad Rafi rejected the pending bail application. Based on statements made by parents that fake documents were prepared to enable them to admit students to the school, the individual who had allegedly done this was taken into custody on suspicion and the police reported to the court that the principal had telephone contact with this person.
The police also informed the court that in addition, it had been revealed through evidence given by parents that sums between Rs. 50,000 and Rs.300,000 had been given to the principal so that students could be admitted to the school.
The Officer-In-Charge of the Special Crimes Investigation Division Chief Inspector of Police W.M.S.Uvindasiri and Police Sergeant Hettiarachchi reported the facts regarding the case in court based on instructions of Senior Superintendent of Police in charge of the Kandy Division Chamil Ratnayake.
The case is due to be taken up for hearing again on September 27.
