Wanted suspect arrested after knife attack on police in Pettah

A person who tried to attack the police officers with a knife has been admitted to the Colombo general hospital following a cut

injury with a glass of the police post in Pettah. The police say that when the suspect tried to attack the police officers with a knife hidden in his waist, the police officers moved away and saved their lives. The police further say that the suspect’s hand was cut with a glass of the police station and injured.

The suspect named Mohammad Murasis or Wakoi, a resident of Colombo 13, has been taken to the hospital after being injured. According to police while a team of officers including the OIC of the Crime Division of the Pettah Police were on operational duty to arrest warrantees, a warrantee related to a case pending in the Maligakanda Court was arrested near Bogaha junction, Pettah.

Then the police took the suspect to the police post for questioning. There, the suspect took a knife hidden in his waist and attacked the police officers. A police officer said that when the officers immediately jumped aside to prevent it, the warrantee’s hand hit the glass of the police checkpoint and was injured.Police say that the injured suspect is being treated at the Colombo National Hospital under police protection.
