Two Prisoners who were taken to be produced before the Medawachchiya Magistrate’s Court yesterday evening, have escaped the custody of prison officers at the court premises
According to the police media, one of the suspects those who had fled away from the prison bus, was identified as 24-year-old, resident of Punewa area in Madawachchiya, who is charged with sexual assault while the other escapee is a suspect of numerous criminal charges.
Second suspect who had fled from the scene, was identified as a criminal who had involved in number of criminal cases and a resident of Mahakandarawa area in Madawachchiya.
Medawachchiya Police and the prison officers are carrying out search operations to apprehend the two escapees.
Further investigations are being conducted under the supervision given by the Officer in Charge of the Madawachchiya Police Station.
