The curtain raiser of this year's schools cricket season, Battle of the Brothers, big match encounter between Thurstan and Isipathana Colleges is scheduled to be held for the 56th occasion. In parallel to the big match, arrangements have been made to hold the 33rd, 40 over fixture between the past pupils of both schools played for the Priyantha Kulasekara Memorial Trophy.
It will be held on February 10 at the B.R.C Grounds with fun filled activities for kids and loved ones and there will be a gathering of the old boys during the latter part of the day.
The Isipatana College team, will be led by former International Cricket Council Umpire Asoka De Silva, who captained the Isipatana 1st XI team in 1968-69 and represented Sri Lanka as a right arm leg spinner in 1970-80 and also include Uvesh Karnain, who represented Sri Lanka under Asoka De Silva's captaincy in 1984, Nuwan Zoysa, the left arm pace bowler who represented Sri Lanka in 1995.
The 17- member squad incudes Sandun Lugoda, Melanka Gunasekara, Indika Kumara, Raveendra Subasinghe, Ikram Abdeen, Gayan Mendis, Dilip Sri Vinod, Vipula De Silva, Kanchana Madugalle, Manoj Madurapperuma, Ramachandran Sridharan, Ravi Jayasuriya, Sagara Duminda Perera and Vidura Algama.
The 15-member Thurstan squad is captained by Deepal Madurapperuma, who led the Thurstan College 1st XI team in 1981-82. The squad consists of Asanka Vithanage, Amila Liyanaarachchi, Rohitha Priyantha, Kamal Mahendra, Jayajeewa Karunaratne, Krishantha Dharmasena, Sampath Nanayakkara, Sameera Samarawickrama, Niroshan Bandaratilake, Tharindu Wickramasinghe, Dayananda Wickramasinghe, Asanka Hettiarachchi, Sumeda Bandaratilake and Vasantha Warnasuriya.
