Kabir’s Coordinating Officer seriously injured in shooting

A 37-year-old father of three of Danagama, Mawanella named Mohamed Razik Tasleem who received serious head injures in a shooting incident in the wee hours of Saturday is receiving treatment at the Kandy General Hospital ICU, Mawanella Police said.

Tasleem who is a Coordinating Officer attached to Highways and Petroleum Resources Development Minister Kabir Hasheem, also contested the Mawanella Pradesheeya Sabha election from the UNP list.

Tasleem was asleep with his wife and youngest son when the gunman opened fire causing injuries to his head. Police said he was first admitted to the Mawanella hospital and subsequently transferred to the Kandy hospital. Investigations revealed that two men who arrived on a motorcycle had shot him with a 9 mm pistol and sped away. A spent 9 mm cartridge was found under his pillow.

Tasleem who functions as the Danagama Mosque Board of Trsutces Secretary is a proprietor of animal husbandry farms and a well known social worker.

Mawanella Police is conducting investigations directed by ASP Gamini Tennakoon and OIC Chief Inspector M.D. Nilanga under the supervisor of Kegalle SP Chamika P. Wickramasinghe.
