‘Illicit liquor, reason for most deaths’

Illicit liquor is the cause for most deaths and diseases, said Attorney-at-Law M. R. B. Kohombakadawala in Kurunegala on Sunday.

He was speaking at the monthly meeting of the Sathkorala Community Rights Protection Organisation held at the Kurunegala Ethkanda Raja Maha Viharaya.

‘Illicit liquor harms health as it contains different toxic chemicals,’ Kohombakadawala said.

He also said the government should discourage illicit liquor consumption as poor people very often become victims.

He said cigarettes contain only chemicals including nicotine which is the most poisonous alkaloid found in tobacco plants.

Former High Court Judge (retired) Gamini Wattegedara also addressed the meeting.
