The Suwaseriya ambulance service launched its new Emergency Dispatch Management (EDM) System and the ‘1990 - Ambulance’ mobile app to enable faster dispatching and management of ambulance movements on Wednesday.
The app was introduced specifically to help patients suffering from cardiac arrest and stroke.
Research shows that every minute of reduced response time increases the chances of a patient’s survival by almost 10 percent. Currently, the average response time for the 1990 ambulance service is 8 minutes and 23 seconds in the Western Province and 11 minutes and 25 seconds in other regions.
Economic Reforms and Public Distribution Minister Dr. Harsha de Silva urged smartphone-users to download the app without delay.
