Madumadhava files FR to prevent being arrested

Singer and Pivithuru Hela Urumaya (PHU) Deputy Leader Madumadhava Aravinda filed a Fundamental Rights petition seeking an Interim Order restraining police from arresting him in connection with Minuwangoda mob attacks.

Filing this petition through counsel Thushara Dissanayake, petitioner Madumadhava Aravinda cited Minuwangoda Police OIC K.R Ajith Priyantha, Colombo North Deputy Inspector General of Police Deshabandu Tennakoon, acting Inspector General C.D. Wickramaratne and the Attorney General as respondents.

Madumadhava states that there is no justifiable reason to arrest him as he has not been involved in any incident either in Minuwangoda or in any other place with regard to the purported incidents. He states that he has a clean record and has never been charged or been suspected of being involved in any criminal activity. He states that the decision to arrest him is unlawful and arbitrary since there is no evidence whatsoever that he had abetted, assisted or encouraged anyone to get involved in the attacks.
