Two arrested in attempting to bribe police officers

Two persons who have tried to bribe a team of police officers were taken into custody by Dankotuwa police.

The police team has been on duty in the early morning between 4.00 a.m. to 6.00 a.m. at the road block near Katukenda junction. A lorry which was driven towards Negambo from Naththandiya has sped away from the block without stopping despite police’s signal to stop the vehicle.

A cab that followed the lorry has stopped near the road block and two persons who were in it have attempted to give two Rs. 500 notes as a bribe to the police officers, claiming that the lorry that sped away belongs to them and that it has been transporting cattle.

The two suspects were immediately taken into custody for attempting to bribe the police officers. They are residents of Vavuniya and in the ages of 22 and 25. They were produced before the Marawila Magistrate and ordered to be remanded until Monday (11).

Dankotuwa police are investigating.

Two thieves nabbed

Two suspects who were involved in a series of break-ins and thefts in the Ragama, Peliyagoda, Kadawatha and Kiribathgoda police divisions were taken into custody by Ragama police.

The suspects were taken into custody at Hikgahawatta Junction following a tip off. The arrested are in the ages of 35 and 22, residents of Kelaniya and Kadawatha.

Following the statements given by the suspects, the police retrieved stocks of mobile phones, wrist watches, purses, vehicles parts and digital cameras.

The suspects were to be produced before Welisara Magistrate’s Court.

Suspect arrested with 5.6 g heroin

A 52-year-old person was taken into custody by Wellampitiya police along with 5.6 grams of heroin.

The suspect was taken into custody by the Colombo Crime Division in Sinhapura, Colombo following a tip off. He was to be produced before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court.

Two foreigners nabbed

A Maldivian national (25) and a Bangladesh national (26) were taken into custody recently for staying here without visa.

The Maldivian was taken into custody in Dehiwala by Dehiwala police, while the Bangladeshi was arrested by Rathgama police.

The suspects were to be produced before the Mount Lavinia and Galle Magistrate’s Courts.

Dehiwala and Rathgama police are investigating.

Three youth die in motorcycle collisions

Three youths had died in three separate motorcycle accidents on last Saturday (9) reported from Mahiyanganaya, Piliyandala and Awissawella.

The deceased Wasantha Anurasiri, Malan Kulasekara and Imesh Madhushanka were in the ages of 29, 18 and 20. They were residents of Arawatta, Makandana and Dehiowita.

According to the police, two of the accidents were motorcycle-lorry collisions.

The other was a motorcycle-van collision.
