Fire at factory

A sudden fire has erupted in a Coconut oil manufacturing and exporting factory in Gampaha yesterday.

The Gampaha police, Gampaha Municipal Council, Negombo Municipal Council, Welisara Navy and the fire brigade of the Veyangoda Army have doused the fire.

No lives were claimed and the damage caused by the fire has not been estimated yet.

The police media stated that the cause for the fire has not been identified and the Gampaha Police are investigating.

Fatal accident

A 42-year-old woman died in a car and van collision in the Kalagedihena junction on the Colombo-Kandy Road last Saturday (8) around 10.30 pm.

The car driver, three men and a woman were admitted to the Wathupitiwala Hospital and the woman died after admitting to the hospital.

The deceased was identified as a resident of Henegama. The car driver was to be produced to the Aththanagalla Magistrate’s court yesterday (9).

Nittambuwa police are investigating.

Boy dies in accident

A 23-year-old boy died when the van he was travelling in hit the ‘Kalu’ bridge in the Kiriyankalliya, Adiyagama as the driver was unable to control the vehicle.

The Police media states there were 10 passengers in the van and seven were admitted to the Mundalama Hospital.

The van driver had been arrested and he was to be produced before the Puttalam Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

Mundalama police are investigating.
