5,440 persons complete quarantine at Forces-run centres

As of yesterday 5,442 persons had undergone the quarantine process at military run quarantine centres and left for their homes, Army Commander Lt. Gen. Shavendra Silva said.

The Commander said that another 72 persons who had associated with the persons from Modara, Rajagiriya and Kolonnawa  who were suspected of having contracted Covid-19 earlier were sent to quarantine centres. However, their PCR tests turned out negative and with that the 72 people taken for quarantine were sent back to their homes.

In addition, another 148 persons who had been in quarantine at the Panichchankirny, Meeyankulam, Katukeliyawa, Galkanda, Kalpitiya and Hekitta quarantine centres were released after completing their quarantine process. Prior to being released, they were subjected to the PCR tests.

Currently, there are 5,442 persons still in quarantine at 42 tri-forces run quarantine centres.

As of yesterday (07) there were 366 Navy personnel who were infected with the Covid-19 and the majority of them are within the camps. Accordingly, 284 Navy personnel of them are from the Welisara Navy Camp and the other 82 are those from other areas.

Meanwhile,  areas in Abhayapura in Lankapura, Polonnaruwa, which were isolated due to Covid-19, had been re-opened, Army Commander Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva said. The areas were isolated on April 22 following the detection of a patient who tested positive for Covid-19 from the area.
