If possible, all planned events and gatherings such as weddings must be avoided during this period, Deputy Director General (Environmental, Occupational Health and Food Safety) of the Health Ministry Dr. Lakshman Gamlath said.

According to Dr. Gamlath, if it is impossible to postpone a wedding, the minimum number of invitees should be selected to take part in the event and this number should be 40 percent of the full capacity of the wedding hall, and it also should not exceed 100. Inviting more than 100 guests, including close family members, is illegal even if the number (100) does not exceed 40 percent of the full capacity of the wedding hall.

Dr. Gamlath pointed out that the reception hall/parlor and all its furniture have to be cleaned and disinfected before an event is held. Hand washing facilities at the entrance, preferably with a pedal, should be provided for invitees; and make sure that each invitee washes their hands before entering. It is recommended to check the temperature of all guests entering the reception hall/parlor. Visitors need to maintain a minimum distance of one meter at all times.

Dr. Gamlath stressed that adequate ventilation in a hall/parlor should be ensured. An open venue is preferred. Hugging and handshaking are discouraged and no-touch greetings must be adopted.

All guests/visitors are encouraged to wear face masks in the correct method as described in general guidelines. Guests must refrain from sharing glasses, plates and spoons.

In buffet style serving or self-service, a designated staff member must be appointed to serve food in order to avoid handling of common utensils by guests.

Taking group photos are discouraged. At the end of each event, the reception hall/parlor must be cleaned and disinfected.
