Indian HC meets PM

The Indian Government and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi appreciated the Sri Lankan Government's measures to control the COVID-19 pandemic in the country under the leadership of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa. 

This was conveyed to Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple Trees yesterday during the meeting with new Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Gopal Baglay. 

Indian High Commissioner also said that the Indian Government is ready to work with a sense of understanding with Sri Lanka on the impending economic issues in the aftermath of the COVID-19 global pandemic. Focus of the meeting was also drawn to strengthen the economic ties between the countries further.

While discussing the religious bondage between the two countries, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa pointed that the sacred relics of Lord Buddha which are placed in the Indian Museum were offered to the Buddhist temples so that Buddhists across the world would be able worship them and make offerings as they wish. 

Prime Minister's Secretary Gamini Senarath, former Minister G L Peiris, former Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabral, Cultural and Budhasasana Ministry Secretary Bandula Harischandra also participated in the meeting.
