Major Cup Youth U-23 Cricket tournament postponed

The two semifinal matches of the Major Cup Youth under-23 Cricket tournament conducted by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) have been postponed due to Covid-19 pandemic in the country during the last few days.

The two semifinals between Badureliya CC Vs SSC and Colts CC Vs Lankan CC were scheduled to be competed today at NCC and CCC grounds respectively while the final was to be staged on October 11 at SSC grounds. Due to the uncertain situation owing to the pandemic, SLC tournament committee decided to postpone the two matches, after consultation with the health authorities. New dates will be finalized within the next few days.

The defending Champions CCC and runner-up Chilaw Marians failed to secure a place in the semifinals. SSC’s Nipun Dhananjaya became the top run scorer in the six preliminary round matches by scoring 376 runs inclusive of one century and two half centuries. CCC’s Malindu Maduranga scored 273 while Ravindu Fernando of Tamil Union C and AC with 253 runs secured the second and third slots respectively.

“We had no option but to postpone the two matches. We consulted the health officials who were of the view to cancel the matches and reschedule for another date. We will monitor the situation closely and fix fresh dates for both the semis and the finals” said Bandula Dissanayake, Chairman, Tournament Committee, SLC.
