Rangoda Hill located near the 122nd kilometre in the Imaduwa Secretariat Division of Ahangama is at risk of imminent landslide, head of the University Of Colombo Department of Environmental Technology, Prof. Ranjana Udaya Kumara Piyadasa disclosed.

The Professor made the disclosure to the media following an environmental study made in the said area. “The threat of landslides in this region is sharper than that of the Godagama section of the ‘E’ class highway which links the capital to a number of major cities in Southern Province. The threat of landslide is posed due to the water springs generated under the soil layers pressed during the process of construction of the expressway,” he pointed out.

“However last May also this hilly area was prone to landslides and the Expressway was clogged. On that occasion also we affirmed that the main cause for the landslide was the excessive quarrying and related activities at Rangoda Kanda area,” the Professor asserted.
