COVID-19 patients top 11,000

According to the statistics of the Epidemiology Unit of the Health Ministry, the total number of COVID-19 positive patients detected in the county has increased to 11,060 by 10 a.m. yesterday. Epidemiology Unit sources said that around 5,249 of them have recovered while 5,790 remain in hospitals.

The total number of persons who tested positive for the virus in the Minuwangoda coronavirus cluster rose to 7,581 by 10 a.m. yesterday.

Meanwhile, the National Operations Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOPCO) yesterday stated that around 11,087 PCR tests were carried out across the country on Sunday (01) and the total PCR tests conducted so far stands at 523,822.

According to the NOPCO, 228 quarantined people after PCR tests left for their homes yesterday. Of them, 69 persons are from Pallekele Quarantine Centre (QC), one person from Hotel Mount Lavinia QC, eight persons from Hotel Gold Sands QC, 132 persons from Viduthalai QC and 18 persons from Mirigama QC.

To-date, 61,955 individuals have left for homes after quarantining. As of yesterday morning (2), 4,039 persons in 45 Tri-Service-managed QCs are still in quarantine.
